Ahoy there me hearties! A pirate inspired party is an all-time favourite with kids. Best of all, you can let your imagination run wild with the invitations, food, games, decorations and party bags. Let us inspire you with our guide to planning the perfect pirate party.
Kick off the pirate theme right from the start, with a message in a bottle inspired invitation. Write the invitations on tea-stained paper, roll them up and pop them into a bottle filled with a little sand. We love the idea of adding an eye patch to the bottle that guests can wear to the party.

When it comes to decorations for a pirate themed party, think nautical, black, white, blue and red! Make an anchor or steering wheel out of painted cardboard for a cool feature decoration. Hang pirate inspired bunting around the room. Don’t forget to make (or buy) a pirate flag too! If you’re feeling super creative, why not make a ship out of cardboard boxes for the kids to play in during the party.

A pirate party just wouldn’t be the same without some fun and games! How about hiding buried treasure in a box filled with sand. See who can find all the treasure in the least amount of time. To make it more difficult, try this game while wearing a blindfold!

For lots of fun, set up a game of ‘Walk the Plank’ using a board or piece of wood with two sturdy containers on either end. If it’s a hot day, why not pop a little paddle pool underneath the plank!

After all the fun and games, your little party guests are going to need some yummy party food to keep their energy up. We love the idea of these ‘Polly’s Crackers’ – such a simple way to use rice crackers on your party food table.

Or if you’re after hot food, then some pirate ship hot dogs are just what you need. Simply print a pirate flag template off the computer and thread a skewer through the paper.

For the birthday cake, it’s a difficult choice between a treasure chest or a pirate ship! Let your little one decide (or if in doubt… go for the easiest option!).
